A dream world – The illusion we live in

Blog Post No. 13

A few years ago, I became interested in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. I remember at the time it was absolutely difficult to grasp what the concepts of maya and emptiness would mean. Generally, I believe that a complete understanding of the nature of reality is impossible due to the limitations we experience here. When we return to the other side, I assume that all memories and knowledge will return.

Experience is key

What was a game changer for me was the experience of what maya i.e. “illusion, appearance, deception” means. Such experiences help us to get the sensation and therefore the memory of where we are. It is necessary to get out of the head (= only theoretical understanding) into the experience (= integration of knowledge which creates wisdom).

Experience may unlock our innate memory.

As mentioned before, I believe that only through the experience or the remembrance of an experience can we fully understand what we are and where we are. The mind and mere understanding in the head will only remain in theory.

Recognizing the dream world

I would like to share a very personal experience. This is a warm reminder that my entire blog is based on my perspective.

As mentioned in my last blog post, I do not support the trend of drinking ayahuasca or consuming other plant medicines for many reasons – some listed in the previous article. I have experience with Mother Ayahuasca myself and of course there may be benefits, but I would not generally recommend it.

Back to topic: During one of my ayahuasca experiences, it felt like I was waking up in a dream – the dream of life. The dream world we live in became visible and I felt the illusion we are in. It felt like I had been asleep the whole time since I was here – and this experience woke me up, as if I was aware that I was real in this illusionary realm. That feeling has stayed with me until today…

Recognizing the illusion for what it is felt pretty ridiculous because I wasn't aware of it up until that moment. It was like a big joke – in its purest form – because it seemed so obvious now.

The illusion seems like a big joke once you have seen it for what it is.

The seriousness we give to life is a strong attachment to the physicality in here, which is only based on programs we run. The attachment to this physical world is not natural and is part of the illusion. Hence it can be so hard to recognize the illusion. The artificial programs of this world block our ability to realize it.

We cling to something we don't even understand and we hold on to material things in the hope of redemption. All this, because we no longer remember who we are and unconsciously hope for salvation from the outside – which won't happen because we are our own saviors.

We are our own saviors.
